The Plus plan takes it further. The rideshare allowance doubles to $100. If you are more than 100 kilometres from home, hotel accommodation up to $150 per night for two nights is covered. And if you and your family need to get somewhere, alternative transport for up to five people to your destination — up to $300 — is included.

Both plans cover you anywhere in Australia, any day of the year. New Toyotas delivered through a Toyota dealer usually include roadside assistance already — so check your paperwork before assuming you have nothing.

Here Is Where It Gets Complicated

Toyota breakdown assistance is great for what it is designed for. But it has limits that catch people off guard at exactly the wrong moment.

The tow goes to the nearest Toyota dealer — not your preferred one, not your regular mechanic, not your home. If a closer dealer exists across town in the opposite direction to where you need to go, that is where the vehicle goes. You do not get to choose.
